Who doesn’t want more distance and forgiveness? When designing the grindworks Forged Dual Pocket Iron we wanted an iron that not only produced automatic big distance, but one that also looked great and felt great.  A pocket cavity is always a challenge when it comes to sound and feel due to how an undercut alters the sound at impact, however we had no doubt our design would use a pocket for more forgiveness and more distance, in fact we decided on double the pocket.

 

The new grindworks Phoenix series is a premium line of performance golf clubs made for golden age golfers, in other words, senior golfers with a lifetime of golfing experiences. With many years of experiences of his own, grindworks club designer Doc Niimi has devoted his focus to studying the art of golf and has created this special line of clubs with a focus on feeling as well as performance. The Phoenix series specifically targets male golfers 60 years and older and lady golfers of any age who want that extra distance and forgiveness.

 

The all new Phoenix Hi Cor driver uses a super thin ultra high COR face for the ultimate in spring effect. the variable thickness forged SP700 Titanium cup face increases the clubs repulsion power and widens the sweet spot in every direction. The result is higher ball speeds over a greater area of the face increasing distance and forgiveness. SP700 produces a soft yet crisp feel at impact as the ball springs off the face like a sling shot.

 

The Phoenix driver with its Hi Cor face is non conforming to SLE rules and is aimed at recreational players who want the ultimate in distance without worrying about the rules. In order to achieve this super spring effect, the SP700 face is forged very thin for maximum flex and is rated for players with driver swing speeds of 38m/s or 85mph OR LESS.

 

A great head needs a great shaft so we collaborated with Composite Techno, one of the leading manufacturers of high modulus carbon shafts in Japan to create an A.Japa shaft with the optimal performance match for the Phoenix driver.

 

The made in Japan A.Japa F45 shaft features 80t high modulus carbon sheets tightly woven to create a lightweight distance shaft that is stable and accurate as well. High modulus carbon is more rigid which allows a shaft to quickly and consistently regain its shape during the swing.

 

We gave the a higher torque spec in order to enhance the feel of the shaft loading, and accelerating through the impact zone. A more consistent shaft allows the player to simply swing naturally and not worry about timing. Let the shaft do the work and square up to the ball for better impact and more distance and accuracy.

 

The Phoenix Hi Cor driver can be custom built to each players own specs. Optional weights are also available for the head which can help create the desired swing weight for each player. With a deep undercut cavity on the sole side of the iron as well as a secondary pocket along the top line we created a design that would increase the spring effect of the iron face for more ball speeds at impact and a much bigger sweet spot.  The cavity is most deep in the long irons progressing to less depth in the short irons. This helps long and mid irons produce an easy high launch for more distance while shorter irons are easier to aim and score.

 

We decided that a mid sized distance iron doesn’t have to look bulky and huge so we kept the head reasonably small with some offset to help square the face. The Dual Pocket Iron is a multi piece iron with forged S20C body matched with a specially developed new forged K301 Hi Velocity Forged face. Automatic distance, huge forgiveness, great feel and looks!
